How to optimize your JPG images

JPG is a popular file format for storing photos and other types of images. With over a trillion photos being taken each year, that is a huge amount of data. Fortunately, the format supports compression, allowing the size to be reduced considerably. This in turn, means less Internet bandwidth usage, less storage requirements, and faster transfers.

Most images also contain metadata that identifies the creator, and contains other information, such as the settings used to create the image. This can also be safely removed, or minimized, to save space.

This website provides an interface to do this conversion, resulting in much smaller, and faster images. For website developers, optimizing images with a quality setting of 80 to 85 will pass most speech checkers, for example Google's PageSpeed Insights.

Click "Choose your JPG image" above, then press "Optimize". Once the compression is complete, you will be able to compare both the original, and the new image in the comparison slider on top. Once satisfied, click "Download" to get your optimized jpeg image.
